Laminar Flow (Cleanrooms) and Tunnel Sterilizers

The product range offered by Kottonau and our partners, primarily from the EU, consists of numerous product families and thousands of product variations. We are happy to assist you in selecting the right variant.

In the case of laminar flow, there is a slow exchange of air from top to bottom. The flow is so gentle and low in turbulence that it cannot stir up any dust particles. Laminar flows are essential in the pharmaceutical and semiconductor industries, paint booths, and in places like operating rooms where ventilation is critical. Flow sensors are used to monitor laminar flow velocities and directions.

The sterilization of used glass containers in the pharmaceutical industry is carried out in tunnel sterilizers. In the heating zone, hot air is blown onto the containers to sterilize and depyrogenate them. Specially designed robust sensors measure the flow velocity of the hot air.

On this page, you will find a selection of suitable products related to laminar flow (e.g., in cleanrooms) and sterilization using hot air.

The thermal flow sensor TA10c by Höntzsch is suitable for the precise measurement of low flow velocities. It is sterilizable, explosion-proof, and includes an integrated transmitter in the shaft. It can be effectively used in cleanrooms or glove boxes at air/gas temperatures ranging from -10°C to 80°C and a pressure resistance of up to 16 bars.

The sensor’s measuring range covers flow velocities between 0.2 and 20 m/s. It is made of stainless steel and comes with a shaft diameter of 10 or 18 mm. Installation can be done on the ceiling (8c) or the wall (9c).

The wing wheel sensor ZS30 ZG4 by Höntzsch is particularly heat- and pressure-resistant. It can be used in temperatures ranging from -40 to 350°C and pressures up to 6 bar. The sensor’s measuring range covers flow velocities from 0.3 to 3 m/s in gases and from 0.03 to 3 m/s in liquids. If needed, it can also monitor flow direction and temperature. The stainless steel probe has a diameter of 30 mm, and thanks to the integrated transmitter in the connection housing, no additional device is required.

In addition to stationary measurements in tunnel sterilizers, it can also be used in drying plants or ovens. In the direction-detecting version, the wing wheel sensor is used in cleanrooms to monitor the flow direction as well.

The multifunctional pressure sensor Si-CPE320 is an advancement of the KIMO SI CPE 310. It is ideal for precise air and gas pressure measurement in cleanrooms, laboratories, or HVAC applications. Its measurement range for air and neutral gas is between -250 and 250 Pa. The sensor performs an automatic self-calibration of the zero point and temperature compensation.

Another sensor for humidity, temperature, flow velocity, or air quality (CO, CO2) can be connected, and the corresponding measurement value is displayed on the screen. The signal transmission is done analogically or digitally via Modbus. Data recording can be downloaded on demand through software/app.

The pressure sensor has a visual and auditory alarm to quickly respond to a critical system condition or initiate countermeasures. The multifunctional pressure sensor Si-CPE320 is made of stainless steel and is built into the wall. It is waterproof and resistant to vaporized hydrogen peroxide. The touchscreen is located on the front of the device.
