Flow Measurement in Running Waters

The measurement of flow velocity is necessary for various reasons. Hydropower plants measure the volume flow to comply with prescribed residual water quantities. In fish ladders, flow velocity is regulated to facilitate fish migration. Fish farms control the flow of inlet and outlet. During flooding, flow measurement is used to make forecasts and take appropriate actions.

With the vane sensor ZS25 (G 1), you can perform flow measurements quickly and easily. It measures velocities (optionally also flow direction and temperature) between 0.03 and 10 m/s in liquids at temperatures ranging from -40 to 500 °C (depending on the model).

It is suitable for mobile measurements, even with low water levels, when used in conjunction with the handheld device Flowtherm NT.2. The immersion probe has a probe diameter of 25mm, is extendable, and is available in aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium versions.

The handheld device Flowtherm NT.2 can be connected to up to three different sensors, and the measurements from these sensors can be displayed or recorded simultaneously. The inputs are compatible with all Höntzsch flow sensors (FA, TA, VA). Additionally, Pt100 and analog sensors with 4-20 mA or 0-10 V measurement signals can be connected.

For instance, it is often useful to connect a temperature sensor and measure both the flow velocity and temperature together. The Flowtherm NT.2 handheld device can store up to 40,000 measurement values, which can be transferred to your computer for data analysis (see also HLOG).

Hydrostatic pressure sensors (FY98) determine the liquid level in containers. Thanks to easy installation and straightforward level measurement, you can start measuring immediately. They are used to monitor the liquid level in wells or settling basins, for example. These sensors are suitable for water temperatures ranging from -20°C to 70°C and pressures from 0 to 0.4 bar.

For demanding level measurements, IPF ultrasonic sensors are a great choice. They enable non-contact level measurements. With an operating temperature range from -20°C to 70°C and a range from 2mm to 6m, they offer great flexibility for various applications.
